Revising. I Mean, ReWriting. Wait, Scratch That: Doing Something Over
March 30, 2012
I used to think re-writing was the fun part.
I changed my mind.
I’m in the middle of re-writing the third Charlie Joe Jackson book, CHARLIE JOE JACKSON’S GUIDE TO SUMMER VACATION.
It’s hard.
It’s hard because when I change something in the back, that means I have to change something in the front.
And when I change something in the middle, I have to change something in the front AND the back.
I have discovered, though, that the REPLACE ALL function is very handy during re-writes. I asked the computer to replace the word “war” with “food fight” and the book got a lot funnier.
Re-writing is also hard because I’m at the point now where I’m kind of sick of the book. I don’t really want to look at it anymore.
It’s kind of like the guest who wouldn’t leave.
Or when you want to go to sleep but your kids insist on watching one more episode of THE DAILY SHOW.
No one loves Jon Stewart more than me, but sometimes enough is enough.
Blogs are good, though. No one makes you re-write my blog.
Of course, that could be why no one actually READS my blog.
Get me re-write!

Replace All–now why didn’t I think of that? As in: replace all of these sections that aren’t working so well with sections of brilliance that play well with others.

No One here, reading the blog!
Re-writes = hard work, head banging on tables, walls, anything within head reach
Re-writes = better books
*sigh*

I read your blog!
Any chance you’re going to SCBWI LA in Aug.?
