At writing conferences, people are always asking me where I get the ideas for my books.

I always tell them the same thing.

“You must have me confused with someone else.”

Then they look at me, and go, “Oh, you’re right. I’m sorry. I thought you were someone else.”

Then we look at each other, somewhat uncomfortably, and go our separate ways.

Unless we’re in an elevator.
